Oriental flair in Dubai’s old town
5. September 2024Sunny days in the Zugspitz region
At the Relais & Châteaux Hotel Singer in the small, charming village of Berwang in Tyrol, a break awaits with wonderful hikes and e-bike tours and in winter, skiers can enjoy the ski slopes right next to the hotel.
The sun bathes the mountains in golden light, the air is mild, the leaves change into their colourful autumn dress - now is the perfect time for active days in nature. How about a trip to the Kögele hut? The easy hike takes just over an hour - it starts right on the doorstep of the Relais & Châteaux Hotel Singer. Nestled in a marvellous mountain panorama, it is located in the heart of Berwang, the highest village in the Zugspitz region. Every room has a view of a summit: Hönig, Thaneller, Almkopf or Roter Stein. All you need for the beginners' tour to Kögele Hütte is a pair of hiking boots. The path leads up to the church, which you can't miss with its white tower, then a sign points the way. On the large terrace or inside in the cosy parlour, you can enjoy hearty hut fare before returning to the hotel in around an hour - or continuing on to the Hönig in an hour and a half.
The circular hike to Daniel and Ups-Spitze is more challenging. The circular route takes five hours, but you are rewarded with a magnificent panorama at the summit - the view extends far over the mountains around Berwang. The way back leads downhill through shady forests via the Tuftl Alm, where hikers can enjoy a plank snack or a delicious Kaiserschmarren.
Those who prefer to explore the area by e-bike can organise a tour with Daniel Schwarz at Hotel Singer reception. The bike guide grew up in Berwang and knows every summit; he is even a member of the mountain rescue service. He recommends the tour around the Thaneller as a medium-difficulty tour: ‘The route around Berwang's local mountain offers beautiful highlights: We pass the Ehrenberg castle ruins, cycle through the Rotlechtal valley and take a detour to the Heiterwanger See lake. At around 25 kilometres and 600 metres in altitude, it's also suitable for holidaymakers who aren't quite as experienced.’ The excursion takes three to four hours and takes place on wide, mostly gravelled forest paths. ‘Our e-mountain bikes have the perfect tyres for this,’ says Daniel Schwarz. ‘And we ride in a relaxed manner, breaks are planned in - after all, the guests want to enjoy nature and the magnificent mountain panorama along the way.’ If you don't have your own bike with you, you can hire one and have it customised by Daniel Schwarz.
After the tours, you can relax in the exclusive Singer Spa with sauna, steam bath, heated indoor and outdoor pool and relaxation room with open fire. Afterwards, you can fortify yourself with Austrian and international specialities and first-class wines: The multi-award-winning Relais & Châteaux hotel has an exquisite restaurant.
Hiking routes and bike trails start right at the hotel, and the Sonnalmbahn cable car is right next door. A well-marked network of trails ensures beautiful tours. You can hire rucksacks and hiking poles, and the hotel will prepare a delicious picnic if you book in advance. The hotel can be reached from Munich in 1.5 hours.
